I’m thinking +1 will be huge in about six months. Here’s why:
At some point, Google has said you’ll be able to get +1 badges for your site, similar the “like” buttons that everyone has now. If the clicks on those on-site +1 buttons appear in the search results, as I expect they will, every site will HAVE to have one.
The big drawback to +1 right now is that most people don’t know if a site is +1-worthy while they’re in the search results — they’d need to go back and click it later after they deem the site worthy. With a +1 button the site, they could click it there.
The biggest reason this will become popular is peer pressure. If your competitors all include a +1 button their site and get dozens of clicks, and you don’t, you’ll look REALLY bad in the search results next to them. If nothing else, you’ll need to add the button to keep up.
Unlike Google’s previous social moves, this one ties directly back into their core product, and therefore could work out quite well for them. It’ll be interesting to see how it develops over the course of the year…

Mickey,
I completely agree with you on all of these points. What I don’t get is why Google continues to release new features before they are really available to the masses. I guess we will see how long it takes before it starts showing up!
