Integrate Email into Your Social Media Program

-

email marketingYou’ve decided to jump on the bandwagon and start using social media to market you company. You have a Facebook page; fill your Twitter feed with witty, yet relevant, Tweets; blog about the latest trends in your industry; and set up your LinkedIn profile. You even have all the social media icons at the bottom of all of your emails, so everyone knows that you have social media sites, right? But are those icons really driving traffic to your sites? Not necessarily. Unless people are actually using the emails you send to gain access to your social media sites, you’re email is not an integrated component of your program.

So, how do you integrate email with your Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites? Recently on MediaPost blog, Morgan Stewart offered eight suggestions to help you incorporate email with Facebook and Twitter. Below are his top three, as well a a fourth from the mRELEVANCE team!

  1. Use your email newsletters to highlight winners of Facebook/Twitter contests. You show your email subscribers what’s happening on your social networking sites, thereby increasing awareness and interest.
  2. Give customers a reason to use the “like” and “tweet” buttons at the bottom of your emails. Just because the icons are at the bottom of your email communications doesn’t mean that people are going to “like” or “retweet” your content. You should strive to provide your email audience with a benefit to clicking on the button.
  3. Use email to answer questions posted on your social media sites. By doing so, you provide valuable information to your subscribers while highlighting the benefits of participating in your social media sites.
  4. Use your blog content as material for your email newsletter. Not only is this a great way to share your content with people who may not subscribe to your blog’s feed, but it is a perfect way to increase the number of visits to your blog!
