Hopefully you are enjoying our ongoing column, “He Said. She Said.” We are focusing on two different perspectives and answering the same question from each of them. mRELEVANCE managing partners offer their respective expertise in this column. Carol Flammer answers from the reader’s perspective, where it’s all about content. Mitch Levinson answers from the perspective of a search engine.
Q: Why is blogging with keywords so important?
A: Mitch Levinson – Keywords attract the search engines. The content that you add to your blog or website is their food. The links and keywords you include help the search engine’s to rank your site for relevance and credibility. If your site is about new homes in Raleigh or Cartersville massage therapy, and you want the search engines to rank your site for those words, then you need to use those words. The search engines need to think your site is about the words you want to rank for, if they do, then they will rank your site high for that word or word phrase. You need to tell the search engines what your site is about.
Q: Carol Flammer – Using keywords in your content creates relevant content for the search engines, but also reinforces your brand and your Unique Selling Proposition. You want to stand out from your competitors, and writing with keywords is important, but you want to make sure that your copy doesn’t read awkwardly. For example it would seem strange to interject the words Cartersville auto maintenance in a post about remodeling. I know, seems obvious, but trust me, I’ve seen stranger things. Just remember, you copy has to be just as relevant for humans reading the content as it does for the search engines that are searching for and indexing your content.
