Magazine Circulation Flat

-

Recent Associated Press coverage states that magazine circulation is flat.  With newspapers cutting budgets  in response to falling revenue, it is no surprise that magazines are also faced with challenges.

Sales of U.S. magazines at newsstands declined 6.3% during the first half of the year. This is believed to be because of rising prices of commodities including gas and food.  As consumers cut back on nonessential spending, popular magazines such as Cosmopolitan and O experienced sharp declines.  And of the top 10 sellers, only People and In Style demonstrated increased circulation.

Overall magazine circulation, which includes subscription and newsstand sales, remained flat at 349.9 million copies in the period, as paid subscriptions edged higher to 290.2 million copies, the Audit Bureau of Circulations reported.
