Search Engine Optimization Goes Local

-

local search engine optimizationWhen it comes to making sure local customers know that your company or product exists in their own backyard, where should you promote your company? We all know that consumers start their searches one of two places – online or by asking a friend for a referral.

The latest chart from MarketingSherpa reveals the local search engine optimization (SEO) tactics businesses are using most often as they fight for traffic through their doors.

According to the chart:

  • 82 percent of marketers are using local content on their website, blog posts and page titles
  • 77 percent include their local business address on their website (This is low hanging fruit, if your address isn’t in your footer or on your contact page, add it today!)
  • 76 percent are using local keywords in internal links
  • 76 percent use local search platforms such as Google Places for business.

All four of these top tactics are not hard to implement as they only require the business’ keywords to have a location focus.

Wrapping up the list of the most used local search tactics include local keywords in external anchor text (59 percent), submitting a listing to the Internet Yellow Pages (45 percent), submitting a listing to a few top online directories (43 percent), customer reviews posted prominently (42 percent) and local citation building (38 percent). These tactics are more time consuming to implement, which is why they are often used less.

At Marketing RELEVANCE, we use all of the above tactics in our trademarked Optimized Relevance™ programs. Whether your business is specific to certain cities, areas of a state, an entire region or state or multiple locations across the country; our efforts focus on using keywords relevant to your products and locations. We use this information to build out an overarching online presence that will bring customers to your website and your store.
