Twitter Follow Limits

-

follow me on twitterWhy can’t I follow anyone on Twitter? Has Twitter told you that you can’t follow anyone else?

Like many sites, this social networking site uses a formula for determining how many people you can follow.  Much like measuring ingredients for a cake, if your ratios are off, it just doesn’t work.

Basically, you can follow up to 2,000 people. Then you can’t follow any more until there is a balanced ratio of people that follow you back. Each account can technically follow up to 1,000 people a day. That said, you could get suspended if you regularly follow/unfollow a lot of people.

Twitter doesn’t publish the exact ratio, but several message board posts have formed the consensus it’s 10%. How this works, if you follow 2,000 people, 1,800 must follow you back. So you must always have only a 10% difference if you follow more people than those who follow you.
