How many times a day do you check your phone and social media profiles? If you’re constantly in touch, chances are you have FOMO. What is FOMO you ask? It’s the fear of missing out, and according to results from the 2012 Connecting and Communicating Online: State of Social Media study, women are more likely to be “diagnosed” with this phobia.
Here are some interesting findings from this study:
- 65 percent of women versus 59 percent of men say they keep a vigilant eye on social media because they don’t want to miss important events, status updates and news.
- 25 percent of women versus 18 percent of men reported logging on to social networking profiles when they wake up and before they check email.
- 67 percent of women versus 54 percent of men login to Facebook once a day or more.
- 83 percent of women versus 75 percent of men check their primary email once or more a day.
So, what does this mean for businesses? It means that social media and a mobile presence is as important as ever especially when it comes to targeting the female gender. If your company doesn’t have an active and engaging social media program, chances are you are missing out on reaching a large portion of your potential customers.
