It’s not only important to plan the content for your social media posts but also the best time to post on social media platforms. In past blogs we’ve talked about the importance of a content strategy. An often an overlooked but important part of that strategy is a content calendar. In that calendar accompanying the scheduled content should be the time of the post. Using a content calendar to plan both the content and time of your posts creates a huge advantage.
The content itself is the most important aspect of the post, however, if no one sees it, it’s simply wasted time and effort. The key word here being ‘effort’. Yes, it does take effort to make sure that your channel audiences are going to see your content. So let’s dive into the social media pool and look at the best times to post on various channels. Because not all post times are created equal.
The more networks you use the more engagement you get. However, a well thought out marketing plan will provide you with the proper channels for your specific audience. And chances are it won’t be all of them.
With the new Facebook updates users don’t see as many business pages as they used to. But it still doesn’t take away from the platform’s dominance of social media. With that said Sprout Social has determined the best times to post on Facebook. These are Wednesdays at noon and 2:00pm, and Thursdays at 1:00 and 2:00pm. Thursday is the best day of the week to post. Late mornings and afternoons see the most engagement during the week, with Saturday having the least amount of engagement of the week.
This platform is designed for mobile use, so that means the people are on it all the time. However, it’s been found that the best time to post is on Monday’s and Thursdays between 8:00 and 9:00am or at 5:00pm. You can also increase your engagement, up to 34%, by posting a video at 9:00pm.
With over 500 million tweets sent per day it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle. However, Twitter still has the best organic reach when it comes to answering a question or commenting in real time. So how can you get noticed? Post on Fridays between 9:00 and 10:00am, and stay away from Sunday mornings as they have the least amount of engagement.
If your business is active on Pinterest, your best posting days are on the weekend, when more people have time to browse your images. The peak time for posts is Saturdays between 8:00-11:00pm. I bet you didn’t know that there are top subjects per day on Pinterest as well, so keep these in mind:
- Sunday – Food
- Monday – Fitness
- Tuesday – Gadgets
- Wednesday – Quotes
- Thursday – Outfits
- Friday – Gifts
- Saturday – Travel
While Google+ is great for SEO, the majority of users only look and will not interact with your content. So go ahead and post to help your search ranking, but think about doing so on Wednesdays between 9:00 and 11:00am.
While most companies don’t and won’t consider LinkedIn as their go-to tool for reaching customers, it’s still the number one player when it comes to finding valuable content, future employees and connecting with others in similar industries. Wednesday from 3:00-5:00pm is the best time to post on LinkedIn. Engagement varies but is typically best Tuesday through Thursday.
All in all you should use these days and times as a guideline for your social media and content calendar. You need to walk before you run, so experimenting and making adjustments as you go, based off these findings, is the best way to discover what works for you. As social media continues to morph, your plans must as well, in order to keep up.
