As we’re diving head first into the holiday shopping season, everyone wants to be front of mind for the deal-conscious customer. We all know that email is the most direct way to get in front of your ideal target, however, what makes them tick? How do you get them to click on and open your email?
First, stick to the core promise of email:
- Be relevant.
- Ask for the sale.
- Make interaction as easy and convenient as possible.
- Keep people informed and involved.
Then, add some GREAT subject lines to draw them in. We’ve compiled a few suggestions to get you started…
Use your list segments to call your recipient by their first name or send them offers that are of their interest.
“These deals are exclusively for you”
“Have lunch with 3 of your friends on us”
This is a great opportunity for you to be relevant by communicating solutions in your email subject line.
“How to Find the Best Car for You”
“5 Ways to Increase your Home Value”
FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)
Statistics show there’s a 22% higher open rate on subject lines that create a sense of urgency and exclusivity.
“Hurry, offer ends tomorrow”
“Get 30% while supplies last”
Who doesn’t want to get more, or something for free? Most people can’t resist something that provides an extra benefit or gives away something at no cost.
“FREE (blank) with purchase of (blank)”
“Get upgraded now”
When customers view your products or services but do not convert with a purchase, it’s a chance for you nurture them down the sales funnel with retargeting. Now is your chance, to go back to them with an offer that will hard to resist or will remind them to complete the action.
“Don’t forget the mug you left in your cart”
“Did you forget something? Take an addition 15% off to purchase now”
So, start by testing your subject lines. If one or two styles work, keep using them. If not, test the next that seems applicable. Opening your email is your customer’s first step to the conversion process and the higher open rate the more chances of conversions. In time, you’re likely to reach an open rate indicating that your subscribers are eager to hear from you.
